He is the famous French explorer who helped broaden Europeans' understanding of Canada. Few people in his day recognized the potential that North America had to offer in terms of its sumptuously diverse landscapes, countless rivers and lakes, and its vast amount of fur. The arrival of Samuel de Champlain in Canada was the most important event in the development of Canada as a country. Champlain possessed dynamic leadership skills, essential at the time, which earned him a lasting contribution to the establishment of Canada. His commitment gives Canada the rich history, identity and culture from which it thrives today. In comparison to other events such as the arrival of Jacques Cartier, the expulsion of the Acadians and the British conquest of New France; Champlain's arrival in the New World radically changed the course of Canada's development as a nation. Through the example of the conquest of New France, the expulsion of the Arcadians, and the initial arrival of Jacque Cartier, we witness in comparison Champlain's renowned leadership skills for which he is so famous. Its history is influential and time cannot diminish its charm. A man of the French Renaissance, Champlain attempted to embody its principles, and his life's efforts remain a continuing legacy to Canadian civilization..
