Essay / Compare and contrast totalitarianism and democracy...
Propaganda influences the attitude of countries and national communities toward a cause or position. There are two extreme types of government systems that use propaganda: totalitarian and democratic. In a totalitarian government, that government has power over all aspects of personal and private life. This is an extremely controlling and dictatorial type of government. In contrast is democratic government, in which citizens can vote for the party they wish to lead. This type of government is open and extremely permissive and allows for freedom of speech and freedom of the press. A totalitarian government and a democratic government have two completely different aspects of how to govern. The totalitarian government is very powerful and demanding. In a totalitarian government, one person holds all the power and makes all the decisions. This government controls every aspect of people's lives. People living in a totalitarian government are afraid to criticize the government because they are closely monitored and sometimes family members disappear. To change residence, get married or change jobs, people must file an application with the government. Totalitarian governments typically control health care and education. Some may say this is a bad form of government. However, citizens who live under a totalitarian government support him ("McMahon"). On the other hand, the democratic powers are divided into three independent branches of government; executive, legislative and judicial. The leaders of the executive and legislative branches, the president, the vice president and the Senate, are chosen by direct vote of the electorate. Judges of the judiciary are selected...... middle of paper ...... spades. This is the typical model of a totalitarian government. Works Cited “Dominican Republic”.
