In 1993, I joined the Army National Guard as a mechanic. Shortly after enlisting, I realized that life in the military actually suited me; and, although I had never turned a wrench before, I proved to be a pretty good mechanic. Over the years, I have worked hard in hopes of one day reaching the top of the Army rank structure. Being promoted to Sergeant First Class was a major accomplishment. As a senior NCO, I felt like I had arrived and was perfectly happy to retire at that rank. That is until recently, when I realized there was a possibility I could become a first sergeant, the highest-ranking NCO in the company. Reaching the goal of becoming a First Sergeant will require a series of events. In order to illustrate this case in a hypothetical syllogism, it would be best to do so using a chain argument. In the pages that follow, I will attempt to present the reader with sufficient evidence to enable them to conclude that I will definitely be promoted to the rank of first sergeant.
