One glaring similarity is the way they use trends to date each other's times. In Marilyn Monroe advertising, they mainly rely on ethos. The company uses the image of Marilyn Monroe in its advertising as a form of celebrity endorsement. Marilyn Monroe was seen as something men wanted and women wanted to become. Having an icon of this caliber on their advertising gives the product and company a sense of credibility. If this ad was used now, it wouldn't be as effective because they would be limiting themselves to everyone who knows Marilyn Monroe now, which is nowhere near as many people as the number of people who knew Marilyn Monroe in the 60s. .
