Company Overview Founded in 1869, Campbell Soup Company is a leading manufacturer and marketer of branded food products with approximately 24,250 employees worldwide, total sales of $6.7 billion , 36 manufacturing plants in 10 countries and more than 2,000 products on the market. Over the years, Campbell Soup Company has branched out into a number of businesses – from frozen dinners to retail garden centers. However, soup remains its core business. Some top Campbell Soup Co. brands include Flagship Red and White Canned Soup, Prego Spaghetti Sauces, Godiva Chocolates, Pepperidge Farm Baked Goods, V8, and more. Additionally, since 1980, Campbell Soup Co. has followed three different strategies under different CEOs. who brought their own agenda to create value for the company and its shareholders. For example, under the leadership of Gordon McGovern (1980–1989), Campbell's strategy was to develop and introduce new products and expand its business portfolio through acquisitions. Under David Johnson (1990 - 1997), the company focused on increasing sales growth, increasing market share and shareholder value by eliminating non-business products and business units. profitable, focusing more on global marketing and improving communication and technology sharing between companies. Under the leadership of the third CEO, Dale Morrison (1997 – present), Campbell's strategy continued to increase sales growth, increase market share and shareholder value, but there was a greater emphasis on on profitable companies with the highest growth potential and on the sale of non-strategic activities2. Strategic Issues/Issues Since 1980, Campbell's business strategy and the company's business structure have undergone three significant changes.
