Essay / The Analysis of the Prince and Machiavelli - 1073
Being a manager or assistant manager is a difficult job. You must lead, set a good example, discipline when necessary, perform various administrative tasks, hire, come up with ideas for better time management, etc. Overall, a manager is responsible for maintaining control and administering the direction of the company. Like many things, political and social theory relates to such responsibilities and situations in the workplace. Political theory is defined as the study of the concepts and principles that people use to evaluate things. Social theory is defined as the framework of society. Machiavelli, author of The Prince, and Durkheim, author of Anomie and the Modern Division of Labor, are two different theorists whose ideas can be applied to the daily life of a manager. In a day, a manager can experience an assortment of any of the skills required of him, in which Machiavelli will be able to point out why it is necessary to do some of these things and explain why managers should do things that they like to express their authority and why they act the way they do in order to maintain respect among employees. Durkheim's theory will emphasize that for a manager to work effectively, he must have all the functional tools such as team members and employees. Although Machiavelli and Durkheim's views differ from each other, they emphasize common theories such as how a manager should express authority, the need to be feared instead of loved, and the functions structures that work properly to keep the entire business running smoothly. a manager retaining a certain degree of authority is extremely important for the smooth running of a business. Authority is defined as a person who owns middle of paper......the company as a whole. For a business to function properly, three working theories of Machiavelli and Durkheim are emphasized through expressed authority, love/hate relationships, and structural functions. Machiavelli emphasizes the importance of maintaining expressed authority. He also expresses that with this authority, love/hate relationships would be complicated. The manager must maintain a relationship with the employees; however, this relationship should not be born out of hatred but rather out of fear in order to maintain some authority and control over said employees. Durkheim's structural function paradigm emphasizes that without teamwork or properly functioning "organs", the "body" (the enterprise) begins to fail. These three theories help to understand the political and social views of an operating business..
