Essay / Mistreatment of People with Disabilities - 710
People with DisabilitiesThere are many people in our world who suffer from some type of disability. I bet if I asked each of you, you would say you know at least 2 or 3 people with disabilities. However, if you really think about it, you probably know a lot more than that. Some people are born with a disability and others get it later in life. I believe that people with disabilities should be treated fairly. They're just trying to live their lives. Besides their disability, they are like us and some people don't realize it. Treating people with disabilities differently is wrong and we must come together to stop this. What are disabilities? A disability is a physical, mental or emotional condition that limits a person. Disabilities can be broken down into 3 categories: your body structure and functions, your activities and your participation. The structure and function of your body is much like your physical capacity. If you were in a wheelchair, it would be due to a physical ability or disability in the structure and function of your body. The activities category limits your ability to perform certain activities. Being paralyzed limits your activity level. A participation disability is any type of impairment that prevents you from participating in an activity. An example of this would be not being able to participate in cheerleading because you are quadriplegic (unable to use your arms and legs). Disabilities can affect you in different ways, including your movements, senses, activities, etc. If you really think about it, some people would consider being in a wheelchair the only type of disability. However, there are many more types of disabilities than that. What people don't realize? With all the conveniences people have...... middle of paper...... learn about the individual and their condition before judging them. We can do our part by coming together and putting an end to this. All we have to do is treat them correctly. Don't be like everyone else, be a leader and treat them the way they should be treated. If you see someone being rude to a disabled person, defend them. If you take this small step, others will see that it's possible and might do the right thing too! I think we should all come together and help put an end to all this nonsense. We should all treat people with disabilities fairly. What have they done to us already? We all have our own “handicaps”. There is something we are not good at, no one is perfect. We are far from knowing what people with disabilities experienced and how people treated them. Having these disabilities forces them to try harder to succeed, so why stand in the way.
