Essay / Equal Opportunity in Education - 1424
To me, equal opportunity in public education is the area in which every person deserves and is entitled to an equal chance to obtain a good education, grow and progress positively throughout their schooling. , and succeed in reaching their full potential later in life. These people should be treated equally, not differently because of their gender, ethnicity or socio-economic status. In a democratic society, I personally believe that fairness and equality go hand in hand in public education. Equity, in education, is the idea that something may be fair, but is not always equal. Equality is the idea that everyone is considered equal. Without fairness, there would be no equality. In terms of accessibility to school funding, equality of opportunity would be the case where all public schools receive the same amount of money for their school. Once the money is distributed, it should be distributed evenly among the areas that badly need help. The money could be distributed to help meet children's special needs, to support arts, music and sports programs, or for technology that can be a useful educational tactic. Most importantly, this funding would be provided to areas and programs that are struggling and where students would benefit the most. If a school has an outstanding arts and music program, but its special education department is lacking, money should be given to the education department to help it make improvements and provide teachers and students with appropriate resources. The program is important because it is the underlying factor. which plays a role in determining growth, achievement and success. The majority of the program is about... middle of paper ... the pressure to keep up with other students. Here they can work at their own pace and find the solution that suits them best to understand or solve a problem. A final idea that school reform should address in creating equality of opportunity in public schools would be to establish standards and devote more classroom time to these important tasks. These standards are put in place to help assess individual progress. It is important to have certain standards in place, but they must be achievable. To make such standards achievable, the teacher will be able to adapt them in a way that the student can meet them. It is imperative that sufficient time be dedicated to getting students to meet these standards. Without sufficient time, students may not be able to fully grasp and understand what they are being taught, resulting in failure to meet standards..
