  • Essay / Thoughtful Autobiography: My Multicultural Professional Journey

You could get a grade in a semester instead of a year. During this time, I was determined to become a lawyer. My parents always told me that I should be a lawyer because they said “tu no pierde un caso” (you don't lose a case). I also thought I was good at winning arguments and I liked the way movies portrayed lawyers, it seemed cool and fun. I also wanted to become a lawyer because I thought they would "make a lot of money" and I wouldn't have to worry about my finances. All that changed when I had the opportunity to take a criminal justice class with a few recent graduate attorneys offered through my school. I liked the course, but realized I didn't want to become a lawyer. I started to change my mind because of all the years it takes to do this job and because it no longer appealed to me when I learned a little more about it through the courses. From that moment on, I didn't know what I wanted anymore.
