Essay / The Wonderful Wizard of Oz - 706
The Wizard of Oz is a classic story that has been told in many ways. The first version I will talk about is the movie version, the book version and finally the Michael Jackson version. Michael Jackson's version is called "The Wiz", but the book version and the film version are both known as The Wizard of Oz. I will talk about the differences between all versions. They all have the same basic plot but are told in different ways. The film was originally shot in sepia, black and white and Technicolor. This film was an all-American classic. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture in 1939. In the film, the Land of Oz is a dream that Dorothy has. Dorothy only meets two witches, Glinda, the Good Witch of the North and the Wicked Witch of the West. The Wicked Witch of the West is the main villain and is constantly on the lookout for Dorothy and her dog throughout her time in Oz. In the movie, Dorothy wears ruby shoes. Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion are not required to wear special glasses before entering Emerald City like they were required to do in the book. In the book, the Land of Oz is real. Dorothy also meets three women along the way. The Good Witch of the North, Glinda, the Good Witch of the South and the Queen of the Field Mice are the good women she meets on the way to Emerald City. The Wicked Witch of the West appears near the end of the story. Dorothy wears silver slippers instead of ruby slippers like in the movie. Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion must wear special glasses when they enter Emerald City. L. Frank Baum wrote this book and dedicated it to his wife. It was published in 1900. It is now classified as middle of paper......an American classic. Most children know the story of “The Wizard of Oz.” Dorothy is a positive influence. She shows kindness, respect and heroines. This story has been told in different ways. The movie and book versions are somewhat similar, but Michael Jackson's version is very different. The witches have different names except Glinda but she is known as the Good Witch of the South instead of the Good Witch of the North. It is also set in Harlem, New York and has an all African-American cast. Overall, the basic plots of the different versions are the same, but the way they are told is somewhat different.
