Essay / Discussion Paper on Child Observation - 1783
Teaching young children is time consuming, as well as a very patient task. Not only are these young children learning how the world works, but they are also learning who they are as people and learning how to think of others as well. The majority of these children have spent their lives in care, where everything revolves around them. So it is natural for them to be self-centered at this age. It will be my job as a teacher and parent to teach these children how to think about other people in this world and move from a pre-conventional thought process to a conventional thought process. As a teacher, I must ensure that each child is at a different cognitive and social level. Children this age will simply learn moral reasoning and realize that the world does not revolve around them. I will have to constantly strive to make sure I'm pushing children toward their zone of proximal development, and if they're not there, I have to figure out how to get them there through scaffolding. Each child will be a unique individual and my goal as a teacher will be to help them reach their full potential, whilst ensuring they are not pushed too hard.
